A recent Skyscanner survey revealed that 9 out of 10 flyers wanted seat reclining to be banned or restricted.
A separate survey found that more than 60% of cabin crews had witnessed physical and verbal mid-flight altercations due to seat reclining. In an effort to temper the trouble, some airlines have reduced seat reclining on certain aircrafts, while some have ordered planes with pre-reclined seats, or no-reclined seats.
It can be irritating or uncomfortable for the person seated behind us. But, it is also just as irritating to have your reclining option revoked; it's totally reasonable to recline your seat if you want to.
We could go down the rabbit hole on how small the seating area is to begin with. Instead, why not put this energy toward removing the middle seat, or at least have some kind of rule against bringing and eating smelly food on board? I think I’d give up the option to recline if I never have to sit next to a passenger eating fried chicken or Chinese beef and broccoli ever again.
Yes, that happened on my last trip, and I might just write about it for my next column if we don't take off soon.
