Obvious tie-ins include flowers and candy, but we also suggest "ultimate date packages" that include dinner, a limo and roses -- the works!
If your local newspaper does a "Valentine's Classified" section, co-sponsor it and read selected ads on the air. The newspaper includes your logo all over the paper for the weeks prior and throughout the paper on Valentine's Day.
Play a dating game on your morning or evening show and help single people meet each other.
Several FTD florists have chocolate roses available. You can have them delivered to the office -- complete with a local musician (accordion/violin) serenading a sweetheart.
Another Valentine's Day promotion that has received a lot of publicity is a mass wedding for listeners either getting married or renewing their vows. Invite listeners up to the number of your frequency (i.e., "(your frequency) couples can exchange vows or renew their vows this Valentine's Day"). The station secures a location, puts on a reception, provides corsages for the brides and boutonnieres for the grooms, photos, etc. This promotion is almost guaranteed TV coverage.
Valentine's Kissing Contest: For Valentine's Day, hold a Kissing Contest at the local mall where participants join you at center court at 11a and begin kissing. All couples must have their lips constantly touching until they drop out. No breaks for bathroom, food, etc. The last couple to remain could win a big Valentine's package including jewelry, roses, candy, a weekend getaway, cash, etc. Can be tied into a charity with entry fees going to the charity. And, of course, all the mall merchants can pitch in prizes.
